How to design reinforcing rib of rotational molding products

2020-09-29 14:55:35

Reinforcing rib is often used to increase the strength of rotational molding products. It not only makes the wall thickness of products uniform, but also saves materials, improves the strength and avoids the appearance defects of products. Because some rotational molding products are large-scale flat thin-walled products, the surface of the products is easy to warp and deform, and the strength is not high. Therefore, in order to increase the rigidity and strength of the large plane and the stressed part of the product, it is necessary to consider the design of reinforcing rib on the corresponding surface of the rotational plastic product. Moreover, the products with stiffeners can achieve the same strength with less raw materials and molding time, so that the wall thickness, strength and cost are well coordinated.

As for the size of the stiffener, there are three elements: length, width and height. The height here refers to the size of the stiffener protruding from the wall. The strength of the stiffener is mainly determined by this height. Generally speaking, the design height of stiffeners should be at least 4 times larger than the average wall thickness of products, so as to greatly enhance the strength of products. The width of the stiffener should be designed at least 5 times of the average wall thickness of the product to provide enough space for the powder or liquid to flow into the cavity. If the space is too narrow, the raw materials can not flow into this part of the cavity evenly, resulting in bridging, internal pores and product shrinkage.

When hollow stiffeners cannot be used, solid stiffeners with lower height can also be used. However, the problem of solid stiffeners is that the raw materials are easy to bridge and can not completely fill the cavity where the stiffeners are located. If the solid stiffener is filled completely, the local wall thickness will increase, the cooling time will be increased, and the shrinkage of the thin wall around the stiffener will be greater than that of the thin wall around the stiffener, and the surrounding wall will be deformed. Therefore, in general, the use of solid stiffeners should be cautious.
